Posting Stories on BajaTrash.com

INSTRUCTIONS & TIPS

    1. Login Page :http://www.bajatrash.com/admin.php
    2. Menu: Once logged in, click on NEWS in the menu or NEW STORY in the top left menu bar under the ADMINSTRATION BLOCK. This action will open up the editor where you can post your story.
    3. Title Box: Put in the title of the story there. This is what appears in the TITLE BARS of the browser and on the RSS Feeds. So make the title short yet compelling with keywords. In other words, something like this….. “Baja California Tourist Beaches Get Cleaned by Volunteers" or "Local Ensenada Kids Recycle Cans"
    4. Topic Box: Pick a topic that is relevant to the story. Choose only 1. This is the category that is relevant to the story so that the story will appear in the topic area of the site that fits.
    5. Associated Topics: Ignore it…. It just adds topic graphics and links s to the bottom of the story. It’s good if you feel there is another TOPIC that is close to this one.
    6. Category: pick either FEATURE or NEWS. Whichever makes more sense.
    7. Publish in Home: Pick NO at first so that when you click SUBMIT at the bottom, you story only appears within the TOPIC and not on the home page. We don’t want it to be there until you double check the story and it’s formatting. Once you get it right, you can go back and edit this and put in YES. I frequently choose NO because I have to edit one or two times before I get it right.
    8. Activate Comments in Story: You can decicde....if you want commments, put YES. If not, put in NO.
    9. Story Text Box: In this 1ST big box put in the LEAD IN text portion of the story. This is the part of your story that appears on the HOME PAGE. Make sure you enter in UNFORMATED text. In other words, if you type your story in Word before you copy and past into the story, make sure you did NOT format the text. If you are unsure, copy and paste your story into NOTEPAD first, then copy and paste from NOTEPAD into the editor. NOTEPAD does NOT use formatting. This is very important. If you want to format your story, do it after you put the text into the box and use the editor tools. To enter images, see below.
    10. Extended Text Box: Enter the bulk of your story here. This is the 2nd big box. The text in this box is what people see when they click on READ MORE on the article that you see on the home page. Used the same rules stated above.
    11. Do you want to program this story?: Enter "No"
    12. Post Story: Where is says PREVIEW STORY, click on arrow and put in POST STORY, then click OK. The story will be posted!

ADD IMAGES

    1. Within the editor, click on this graphic . a pop up box will open up where you upload an image.
    2. Once the box opens, click on INSERT in the menu box.
    3. Click on the little green arrow graphic. This will open up an area to BROWSE a file on your hard drive so that you can upload an image.
    4. Click on the BROWSE button and a window will open up showing files on your hard drive. Pick the image from your files that you want up and click on OPEN.
    5. Then click on the square green box with the white arrow and that will upload the file. When the box opens and ask you to upload, click OKAY. You should see the image in the PREVIEW box. If so, you are ready to format it.
    6. Click on PROPERTIES in the Menu.
    7. Enter a Title and Description of the image
    8. Then in the Attributes area, choose an ALIGN (left, right).
    9. Put in a BORDER of "1". That will put in a thin line around the image.
    10. Then choose a V-Space of 10 and a H-Space of 15. This action will give space between the image and the text.
    11. Click INSERT at the bottom of the box and the image will show up within the story in the editor.

TIPS: For the IMAGE that appears in the top left of the story, please use a maximum width of 175 pixels wide. For images within the bulk of the story, you can be more to choose different sizes. Use your judgement and test as needed.

BANNERS ADS

To add an banner ad at the bottom of the story. Upload it just like you would upload an image. To add a link, click on the chain link graphic and add the URL.

TABLES

To enter a table within the story, click on the table graphic .
